VIENNA---AND IT'S STILL RAINING!

Hello from very wet Vienna, Austria.........

We left Salzburg this morning in the rain, rode through the beautiful Austrian country side in the rain,

and arrived in Vienna in the rain!

View from the train station window--a beautiful church:

And.....here is the view from our taxi window on the way to our apartment:

Have I mentioned it's been a little wet the past few days??????

It was about a 20 minute ride from the station to our apartment, it's in a nice residential area on the outskirts of central Vienna.

We were warmly welcomed to Appartements Ferchergasse by one of the owners, Chris.  He kindly gave us information about what to see in Vienna, maps and directions to the nearest tram station.  He is certainly a nice young man, and very helpful.

We are really happy with our apartment!  It's in an old building--I'd guess around 1920 or so?  We're in a one bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor ( by European standards--really the 4th floor by US count).  It's spacious, quiet, well furnished and spotlessly clean.  The wi-fi is lightning fast--an added bonus!

Here's a brief tour of our "home" for the next 3 days:

The building has been retro-fitted with a teeny-tiny elevator, just room for one person and a small suitcase, or two VERY close friends. It's a little snuggly in there, and we get the giggles every time we use it!

Or---we could walk up the pretty spiral stairs:

There's an old water spigot in each hall, the date says 1924

Here's our apartment, #8

 Small living room:

Nice little galley kitchen:

A very spacious bedroom, the bed is comfy:

Nice view from the bedroom window:

After we unpacked a bit we decided we'd explore our neighborhood, get a few groceries, and check out the nearest tram station.  We walked a few blocks and found a big grocery store.  We stocked up on a few essentials (wine and beer!) and bought some sausages , sauerkraut and new potatoes to make dinner.  When we came out of the store into a POURING rain!

Nothing to do but laugh our way back to the apartment, and we were soaked by the time we got there, even with umbrellas!

We were both happy to stay "home" tonight, so we changed in to our wet clothes into some comfy sweats and enjoyed a nice (and dry) evening out of the rain.

Here's our yummy dinner--sausage, sauerkraut and new potatoes:

And a glass of really good Austrian red wine:

After dinner we saw a rainbow from our bedroom window--maybe good luck for better weather tomorrow?

Goodnight from Vienna, and please cross your fingers, toes and eyes for better weather tomorrow!

Saturday in Vienna:  We're planning on visiting the Vienna Naschmarkt, a large permanent outdoor and covered market.  Each Saturday there's an antique (junque?) market---sure hope it's not pouring down rain!
